2026 BESTEP Teacher Professional Development Workshop

Topic: From EGAP to ESAP: Classroom Cases of Visual–Textual Integration in Academic Speaking and Writing

Time: 14:00–16:00, Friday, May 8, 2026

Format: Online via Google Meet (presentations will be delivered in English)

Abstract

This workshop showcases a collaborative project between the LTTC and partner universities. Developed in response to recurring challenges identified through BESTEP test data, EAP Power Up: Synthesizing Textual and Visual Information for Academic Success is an assessment-informed resource that partner university teachers have since adapted for English for Specific Academic Purposes (ESAP) classrooms. Two participating institutions share how they have tailored this resource to their students' disciplinary needs in both speaking and writing.

Workshop objectives include:

  • Understanding the vision and process behind this cross-institutional collaboration
  • Discovering how EAP Power Up is applied across ESAP speaking and writing contexts, from academic oral presentations in engineering (NTUST) to flowchart-based writing in agriculture (NTU)
  • Examining differentiated instructional design strategies for adapting shared materials to specific disciplinary needs
  • Drawing insights from teachers' reflections and student feedback from actual classroom implementations
